HOUSTON - George Critz McIngvale, the father of Gallery Furniture owner Jim McIngvale, has died. He was 89.
After serving in the Army during World War II, George McIngvale returned to his home state of Mississippi to finish college. He and his wife moved to Dallas in the 1950s, where he worked in finance before opening an insurance company, McIngvale Associates.
About 25 years ago, McIngvale moved to Houston to work in the finance department of his son's store, where he came to be known as Mr. Mack.
McIngvale is survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
