RoomPlace opening 20th store today in McHenry, Ill.
Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, March 22, 2013
MCHENRY, Ill. — Lombard Ill.-based The RoomPlace is set to open at 24,000-square-foot store in this market northwest of Chicago today, the retailer's 20th showroom and first new full-line location since it was reacquired by Bruce Berman.
The promotional to midpriced retailer is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning at 9:30 a.m. at the showroom, a former Borders books and music store, on North Richmond Road.
As at its other Chicago-area locations, the McHenry store will feature room vignettes of living room, bedroom, dining room and youth furniture as well as bedding and accessories.
Key suppliers include Corinthian, Homelegance, Lifestyle Enterprise, Simmons and Tempur-Pedic among others.
The new store is about 20 miles from RoomPlace's existing Algonquin and Vernon Hills, Ill., locations. The retailer already has a strong customer base in Chicago's Northwest suburbs "and the McHenry location will make it more convenient for our customers to shop," said Brian Wiborg, vice president of marketing.
Started by the Berman family in 1912, the RoomPlace was later sold and then reacquired in December 2011 by Bruce Berman. Paul Adams is now CEO.
In a release, the company said it "looks forward to continued expansion into new markets." It did not disclose overall sales or sales projections for the new store.
