Southwood Furniture purchased; High Point showroom buildings up for sale
Heath E. Combs -- Furniture Today, March 22, 2013
HICKORY, N.C. — Southwood Furniture Corp., a manufacturer of traditional and 18th century upholstery and occasional, was sold in January.
New owner and President Vanessa Majma purchased the company's assets and factory here, according to Peggy Bolick, customer service manager.
The new company will drop the "corporation" from its name. The former company is out of business.
Bolick said about 35 original employees of the company were retained from the sale. Southwood also will keep its 18th century and traditional design focus, she said. Former President Rocky Holscher and Vice President Lee Lyerly are no longer with the company.
The former ownership had been looking for a buyer for a few years, Bolick said.
The original Southwood Furniture is liquidating its High Point showroom at 422 N. Hamilton Street in a series of auctions, a press release said. One auction set for 4 p.m. April 9 includes three furniture showroom buildings and a parking lot. An auction will be held online for showroom samples April 3. A third will be held online for antique leather bound books dated to the 18th century from April 3 to April 11.
Information on the auctions is available online at www.ironhorseauction.com.
