HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — As part of a global growth strategy, high-end case goods and upholstery manufacturer Theodore Alexander is opening branded stores China, with 17 planned by the end of this year.
The company announced this week it already has opened five stores in China, two in Shanghai and the others in Beijing and Guangzhou. It said it plans to open another 12 this year.
The existing stores range between 3,000 and 9,000 square feet and include furniture, lighting and accessories from the Theodore Alexander line. The company said the stores also will have design experts on staff to cater to an affluent customer base.
The company said the stores have been designed to reflect current buying trends of each region. The product mix includes finishes and fabrics that the company believes would do well based on the cultural aesthetics of each market, officials said.
"Our exceptional growth in the Chinese market has been the catalyst for our expanded retail presence," Harvey Dondero, CEO, said in a statement about the stores, which opened in late 2012 and January 2013. "As we are one of the largest furniture manufacturers in Southeast Asia, it makes sense to continue our eastern expansion."
