HOM Furniture opens 130,000-square-foot retail campus

ROGERS, Minn. — HOM Furniture has opened its 130,000-square-foot furniture campus here, featuring its namesake HOM store as well as a second Dock 86 showroom.
The Coon Rapids, Minn.-based Top 100 company held a ribbon cutting ceremony earlier this month for the new showrooms at Highway 169 and Interstate 94 in a former Lowe's home improvement center.
The HOM store features store-within-a-store displays for its Sleep Express, World Floor & Rugs, Seasonal Concepts outdoor and patio, Uptown Urban Furnishings and Amish Craftsman areas.
When HOM announced the plans last year, it noted the HOM store would take 78,000 square feet of the 130,000-square-foot space and the rest would be dedicated to Dock 86, its Monday-Friday, bargain-oriented format.
HOM CEO Rodney Johansen said the campus is multimillion-dollar investment for the retailer, which renovated the Lowe's location, including creating four storefronts along with Dock86. Both stores feature a new contemporary exterior look for the company.
"This location will draw customers from a wider area outside the northwest suburbs as they travel along Interstate 94 and Highway 10," he said. "Sales are expected to be on par with our other metro Minneapolis showrooms."
Johansen has said the company is looking for the new location to add about $20 million in sales to its top line.
At the opening ceremony, HOM Executive Director of Marketing Jerry Underwood, welcomed consumers, business leaders, suppliers and local government and Chamber of Commerce officials - all told, a crowd of about 175 people.
HOM is No. 34 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 with estimated 2012 sales of $212.2 million at 19 stores in greater Minneapolis/ Saint Paul, St. Cloud, Rochester and Hermantown, Minn.; Fargo, N.D.; Sioux City, Iowa; Sioux Falls, S.D. and Eau Claire, Wis. The company operates HOM, Dock 86, Gabberts Design Studio and Abbey Carpet.
