Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, August 26, 2013
One of the real perks of my job has been getting to know many of our industry's leaders.
And in doing so, it confirmed my belief that while well-managed, successful businesses can and do come in all sizes, a number of key elements seem to be inherent in all of them.
As part of our 17th annual Furniture/Today Leadership Conference, set for Dec. 3-5 at the Ritz-Carlton Beach Resort in Naples, Fla., and themed "Mastering the Game," we are going to recognize and honor five extraordinary industry masters: Art Van Elslander of Art Van Furniture, Jake Jabs of American Furniture Warehouse, Simon Kaplan of Crest Furniture, Bernie Moray of Gorman's and Ron Wanek of Ashley Furniture.
While their businesses are very different, it's interesting to note that the recipe to each of their successes includes decades of vision, innovation, superior business acumen, philanthropy, leadership and great sense of timing.
Earlier this year, it became clear that we needed to recognize their efforts in some tangible way.
After giving it lots of consideration, it was clear that there was no better place to recognize and honor leaders than at the Leadership Conference.
This year, we are breaking with tradition in that we will use the Wednesday evening banquet solely to honor the remarkable track records of Art, Jake, Ron, Simon and Bernie.
Even so, some things have not changed and that includes a remarkable agenda featuring the likes of Nido Qubein, economist Mark Vitner and a lineup of powerhouse retailers including Jason Harris of Furnitureland South, Art Van's Kim Yost, Mike O'Hanlon of Wayfair, Becca Blumkin Sudbeck of Nebraska Furniture Mart, Jessica Tubman of Circle Furniture, Lenny Kharitonov of Unlimited Furniture and more.
We had capacity crowds for the past three years, so please register early. I want to see you in Naples!
