SALEM, N.J. - Hitchner's Furniture has opened a 25,000-square-foot showroom here, replacing its former three-level store in an 1898 building downtown.
The old store was slightly smaller and had limited parking access, while the new store features plenty of parking and a more open layout that is winning rave reviews from its customers, said owner Martin Erdner. He runs the family-owned business with his son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Cindi Erdner, and six other employees.
Hitchner's added supplier Temple Furniture as well as a youth bedroom offering, but for the most part, the midpriced retailer has stuck with its existing suppliers, Cindi Erdner said. They include La-Z-Boy, Flexsteel, Howard Miller, Winners Only, Best Home Furnishings, Ashley, Broyhill, Craftmaster, Cresent Fine Furniture and Serta in bedding.
The company said the new store represents an investment of about $900,000 and is expected to roughly double the Hitchner's annual sales to $2.5 million to $3 million.
