HARRISBURG, Pa. - Furniture, cabinetry and home furnishings retailer Just Cabinets Furniture & More raised $55,000 during a golf tournament to support Autism Speaks.
The tournament, part of the company's Just Cause giving program, was held at Hershey Links Golf Course.
"We are proud to support Autism Speaks this year," said Ted Bernstein, president of Just Cabinets Furniture & More. "In the U.S., one in 88 children are diagnosed with autism disorders by the age of 8. Autism Speaks is dedicated to raising money for autism research and helping the families of children with autism. This is an important cause."
Golf tournament teams included Just Cabinets Furniture & More employees, partners and vendors. After the golf, attendees listened to a presentation by Michelle Toy, northeast director of Autism Speaks, and were entertained by the music of Ethan Walmark, a 7-year-old piano prodigy who has autism.
The golf tournament was the start of a four-month Just Cause giving program at Just Cabinets Furniture & More stores. The company matches 50% of every donation, and will accept donations at each of its 20 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland through December. In recent years, the program has supported efforts such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"We are so proud of our employees' dedication to those in need," said Bernstein. "Just Cause has contributed more than a quarter of a million dollars since the program's inception in 2007."
In addition to Just Cabinets Furniture & More, sponsors for the golf tournament included Elkay/Medallion Cabinetry, Holland House, Kraftmaid Cabinetry, Legends Furniture, Brown Schultz Sheridan & Fritz, M&T Bank, Surya, Ollie's Bargain Outlet and Simmons Upholstery.
