O'Grady Furniture tackles big names in sports

RAMSEUR, N.C. - Everyone's favorite sports teams are the stars of a licensed line produced at O'Grady Furniture.
In a North Carolina factory in a town of less than 1,700, O'Grady produces adult upholstered furniture emblazoned with the names of more than 80 of the biggest professional and college sports team names in the country and then ships the product throughout the United States.
The National Football League, Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League are represented in O'Grady's domestic line for Imperial International, and owners Billy and Jo Anne O'Grady say that the small size of their company was a positive factor in establishing the licensing partnership.
"We're the exclusive manufacturer for Imperial's domestic adult upholstery line, and we can produce 32 NFL, 30-plus MLB, 12 NHL and approximately 12 different college teams in six products - two recliners, two sofas and two loveseats," said Jo Anne O'Grady.
"There are many different logos and colors that make this an intensive process from the office, so being a smaller company is definitely an advantage. In our factory, one sewer sews every piece, and one upholsterer builds every piece. We build the frames on site, and we buy all of our fabric from people who warehouse locally. This allows us to maintain a two-week turnaround while giving each piece individual attention."
