Barcalounger buying H.Home motion upholstery division

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. — Motion upholstery resource Barcalounger has agreed to acquire the motion upholstery division of H.Home, a deal which includes the company's factory in nearby Bean Station, Tenn.
The factory will be the site of Barcalounger's first domestic production since the brand was re-launched nearly three years ago after its former owner filed for bankruptcy protection.
Barcalounger President Larry Smith said the factory initially will have about 40 employees producing home theater seating and recliners from the company's Casual Comfort collection. He said he hopes to expand domestic production to include other Barcalounger collections and beef up its special order business.
"This is a very exciting time for us," Smith said. "Our offshore program is doing very well, and this domestic program should enable us to continue to grow this iconic consumer brand."
He said H.Home halted production at the plant in late August, but work resumed under the Barcalounger umbrella on Sept. 11. Workers initially will fill remaining H.Home orders before beginning production under the Barcalounger label, Smith said.
The 25-acre factory site includes 70,000 square feet of production space and a 6,000-square-foot office building. Smith said Barcalounger will be moving its corporate offices from Morristown to the Bean Station facility during the first week of November.
H.Home spokesman Carlos Reed said the company is keeping its Athens, Tenn., factory and will continue to produce upholstered beds, as well as stationary upholstery for the residential and contract markets.
Reed said the company believes it has more expertise in stationary upholstery and decided to concentrate those efforts in the Athens factory.
Reed also noted that Grey Hunsucker, who had been vice president of sales since the company's launch in the fall of 2011, has left the company.
H.Home is a unit of wholesale distributor H.T. Hackney, which also owns case goods resource Holland House.
