Caldwell named president of The Brick as Konkle resigns

TORONTO — Jim Caldwell has been promoted to president of retailer The Brick following the resignation of Vi Konkle, who has held the position for the past 21 months.
"Leon's wishes to thank Vi for her contributions to The Brick and Leon's during her tenure. We wish her well in her future endeavors," Terry Leon, CEO of Leon's Furniture, parent company of The Brick, said in a statement.
Konkle will leave the post on Sept. 27, the company said.
Caldwell joined The Brick in March 2010 as vice president of operations. Previously, he was chief operating officer for the Bargain Shop, a national chain of discount stores. He spent almost three decades working at Wal-Mart Canada and it predecessors, ending his tenure as vice president and general merchandise manager of its health and wellness department in 2008.
"Jim brings a wealth of experience in the retail industry, including his recent position of senior vice president of operations for The Brick," Leon said. "We have worked closely with Jim since Leon's acquisition of The Brick at the end of March and we look forward to the skill and professional his stewardship will bring to The Brick."
Konkle joined The Brick as president of business support in early 2010. Prior to joining this country's largest full-line furniture and appliance retailer, Konkle held a number of positions with grocer Loblaws Cos. and Wal-Mart Canada, where she was chief operating officer.
Caldwell will report to Leon.
Founded in 1971, The Brick operates 228 corporate and franchise stores under The Brick, United Furniture Warehouse, The Brick Mattress Store and Urban Brick banners. It also operates Midnorthern Appliances, which services subdivision, condominium, hospitality, and high-rise builder market.
