Design students compete in AWFS contest

Attracts 160 entries

LAS VEGAS — The AWFS 2005 Student Design Contest attracted 160 entries, 40% more than the previous competition in 2003, with the work of 58 finalists displayed at the Assn. of Woodworking and Furnishings Suppliers show here, held in conjunction with the inaugural furniture market.

Twenty-two of the finalists were high school students, with the rest from post-secondary schools.

Schools with multiple finalists included Cedar Ridge High School, near Chapel Hill, N.C.; David Douglas High School, Portland, Ore.; Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah; Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C.; Auburn University, Auburn, Ala.; University of Kentucky, Lexington, Ky.; and Georgia Tech, Atlanta.
 
Auburn University finalists included Brad and Gina Moreman. Among the finalists were 22 high school students, including Meredith Smith, left, Hannah Maxwell and Emily Kale, all of Cedar Ridge High School, Hillsborough, N.C.
