Simmons raising prices on some products
Blames rising costs in materials, manufacturing, transport

ATLANTA — Bedding major Simmons is raising prices on some of its products in November.
In a letter to dealers, Charlie Eitel, chairman and CEO, and Steve Fendrich, executive vice president of sales, said Simmons is experiencing “higher than expected manufacturing costs as well as rising raw material and transportation costs.”
Simmons is raising prices on all foundations by $5. Prices on the company’s Beautyrest World Class mattresses will increase by $35, while prices on Beautyrest Exceptionale mattresses will increase by $40.
Prices on the Simmons Deep Sleep and Beautyrest Classic mattresses will remain unchanged. “Our objective is for you to experience little to no risk as the increase targets the least price sensitive products,” Eitel and Fendrich wrote.
The letter, dated Oct. 12, also notes that the 2007 Beautyrest line “is the most successful line launch that Simmons has had and it is our intent to keep this line in place for as long as possible.”
The price increases are effective with orders placed after Nov. 5.
Bedding sales leader Sealy announced last week that it was raising prices on some of its flagship Posturepedic models, and other items. Sealy announced those price hikes in a letter that was sent to its dealers almost two weeks after Simmons announced its price increases.
