The Rug Market to launch Walt Disney line

Adult, non-character rugs on tap for Las Vegas Market

Lissa Wyman -- Furniture Today, January 28, 2008

LOS ANGELES — The Rug Market has signed a multiyear agreement with Disney Home to create a collection of sophisticated, non-character adult rugs inspired by the vision of Walt Disney.

The company is unveiling the Walt Disney Signature collection at theLas Vegas Market this week in its World Market Center showroom, B-306. It plans to ship the line to furniture and floor coverings retailers nationwide in May.

The rugs are hand-tufted in China of New Zealand wool and viscose faux silk. The rugs are available in 5x8 to 10 x13 sizes, retailing from $899 to $3,499. Custom sizes also are available.

Each rug design draws inspiration from Disney’s Classic Films such as “Fantasia,” “Cinderella” and “Peter Pan.”

“The addition of the new rug line is an integral part of the Walt Disney Signature product line expansion. It complements the Walt Disney Signature furniture line by Drexel Heritage and Lighting by Minka, just to name a few,” said Mike Shabtai, CEO of The Rug Market. “The collaboration of the industry’s major players creates a perfect mix of home furnishings and lifestyle brand inspired by the living spaces and imagination of Walt Disney, a legendary innovator.”

The Rug Market developed classic designs into contemporary pieces that capture Disney’s attention to detail and the company’s 20-plus years of experience in fashion rugs.

Walt Disney Signature is a high-end, non-character, home furnishings lifestyle brand. In addition to Drexel Heritage and Lighting by Minka, the line includes wall décor by Maya Romanoff, and officials expect to add textiles, outdoor furniture, tabletop, candles and scents.
