New product on display at premarket

Some 60 suppliers open High Point showrooms

HIGH POINT — About 60 suppliers here opened their doors Monday to retailers from around the country looking for a preview of what to expect at next month’s High Point Market.

It was the first day of premarket, a two-day event where companies can show new product samples and spend one-on-one time with dealers.

Magnussen Home Furnishings has a dozen new occasional groups on display, including two that are part of six new whole home collections it is showing this week.

Stanley is showing Continuum, a whole home collection with contemporary and traditional style elements. The group has bedroom, dining room, occasional, home entertainment and home office pieces, including some shown in four lacquer finishes.

Hammary is offering a number of pieces in its new Americana lifestyle-inspired case goods collection called Forest Lane. It also has added a number of SKUs to its Hidden Treasures lineup of hand-painted accents.

“We’ve done a lot to prepare for this,” said Randy Huff, Hammary’s vice president of merchandising and national accounts. “We can just about open for market.”

Traffic got off to a slow start Monday for some vendors but was expected to pick up later in the day. Company officials also were expecting steady traffic today, the second and last day of the event.

“This really is such a great opportunity for the dealers to cherry-pick who they want to see at premarket,” said Wyatt Bassett, president and CEO of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture, which has three new bedrooms on display. “It is such a great opportunity to see your bread and butter vendors and be able to free up time at market.”

During the two-day event, he said, the company expects to see as many as 40 accounts, more than it has seen at either of the past two premarkets.
