City of Hope golf tourney to honor Brand Source’s Lawrence

Event will be held June 2 in Coto de Caza, Calif.

COTO DE CAZA, Calif. — Bob Lawrence, CEO of buying group Brand Source, will be honored June 2 at the West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament to raise money for City of Hope.

After a day on the fairways and courts of the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club here, industry members will raise their glasses at a dinner and reception to salute the philanthropic and professional achievements of Lawrence.

Since its inception in 1989, the West Coast tournament has raised more than $4 million for City of Hope, a California-based medical research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Last year’s event alone was attended by more than 500 industry members and raised nearly $900,000.

Lawrence spent 15 years at Maytag Corp. before joining Brand Source in 1994. Since then, the buying group’s membership has grown from 800 to 4,000, and its annual volume has grown to $11 billion. Program offerings, as well as the number of supplying companies, also have expanded.

Lawrence also serves on the board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities and is a supporter of City of Hope.

“City of Hope’s mission to rapidly move scientific discoveries into more effective treatments is remarkable,” he said. “Our industry has a longstanding tradition of support for the work of the institution’s physicians and scientists. I’m proud to be a part of our ongoing commitment to bring hope to cancer patients everywhere.”
