Crowd meets Ty Pennington at Howard Miller

TV personality launches storage furniture line

AT THE MARKET — Marketgoers lined up out the door here Monday to meet TV personality Ty Pennington and see his new furniture line with Howard Miller.

Pennington, home décor expert and host of ABC’s popular “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” made opening day a busy one for Howard Miller, which usually has more traffic later in market in its showroom at 200 N. Hamilton St.

Between posing for pictures and signing autographs, Pennington said he has been involved in designing and building home interiors for years and has wanted to do his own furniture line.

On his TV show, he and his crew build and furnish a home in a week for a deserving family, and Pennington said their hurdle is to create an environment that is stylish yet functional. He said his furniture line provides space-saving pieces in styles that will remain appealing and construction of a high quality to last a long time.

“I understand how the consumer struggles with decorating her home, and I want to change that,” he said. “Offering my expertise to guide people through this difficult process is my goal, and launching Howard Miller Home Storage Solutions by Ty Pennington gives me the opportunity to do just that.”

The line’s 13 storage pieces incorporate function such as MP3 ports and speakers, charging station, concealed ironing board, hair dryer, hidden message center and mudroom locker.

Pennington became familiar with clock, curio and occasional specialist Howard Miller when it became a regular partner of “Extreme Makeover,” donating floor clocks to the show.

“America loves Ty,” said company President Buzz Miller. “His signature style combines the best of great design with an approachability and dedication to quality craftsmanship that really resonates with today’s consumers.”
