Great American celebrates 35th birthday

Liquidator, promotions specialist expanding internationally

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 25, 2008

CHICAGO — Liquidator and promotions specialist Great American Group said it is celebrating its 35th year in business with plans to extend its reach internationally.

“We’ve had such a good run in the United States, we’re expanding our business into Canada, Mexico, even Europe,” said Jeff Yellen, president of Great American’s furniture division. He said the company is building on the banking and other business relationships it already has in those markets and in Asia.

“The next step is to open offices,” he said, but couldn’t elaborate on the plans.

Great American has offices in Chicago, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Philadelphia.

In the United States, Great American’s furniture division most recently has handled going-out-of business sales for retailers including Domain, Nationwide Mattress and Furniture Warehouse, Gabberts’ Texas stores, and certain Lane, Broyhill and Thomasville stores.

“Great American looks forward to the next 35 years by continuing to assist furniture retailers looking for ways to promote and raise cash,” said Yellen.
