Danfield's EcoHides to debut at Showtime
Joan Gunin -- Furniture Today, June 2, 2008
Commerce, Calif. — Danfield, a 25-year-old leather finishing company, will introduce EcoHides, an exclusive line of ecologically friendly hides, at this week's Showtime fabric show in High Point.
EcoHides will be shown at LTM Textile Resources, Suites at Market Square, space 1-1049.
At its tannery in South America and its finishing plant here, Danfield uses natural colorants, vegetable dyes and waxes to create what it says is a pliable leather with a soft hand.
Unlike conventional tanning techniques, EcoHides uses no minerals or metals during the tanning process, according to Danfield. Rather, it relies on materials derived from sustainable, farm-bred mimosa trees. The natural tree extract is used to produce the chemicals necessary for tanning without toxic heavy metals. EcoHides leather is breathable and shapes easily, the company said.
EcoHides are offered as in-stock or custom colors and finishes with short lead times.
The Web site is www.EcoHides.com.
Danfield, meanwhile, is making its 60,000-square-foot facility here environmentally friendly by taking steps such as reducing energy use and recycling 30% of the water used to treat hides.
