COLUMBUS, Ind. — Two Dorel Inds. subsidiaries based here said they will donate $40,000 to flood relief efforts to help victims in central Indiana.
Dorel Juvenile Group USA and Cosco Home and Office Products, whose products include some furniture items, said they will contribute the funds to the United Way of Bartholomew County. In addition, other Dorel divisions and vendors will donate money or products to support the Columbus community.
“We are shocked and saddened by the destruction this flood has caused to our employees, their families and friends, and to the greater Columbus area,” said Dave Taylor, president and CEO of Dorel Juvenile Group.
“Dorel/Cosco has been a partner in the Columbus community for over 70 years, and we will continue to lend support as we begin the recovery process,” added Jeff Cartwright, president of Cosco.
Working with the Volunteer Action Center, Dorel organized employee teams to work with flood victims in their recovery efforts. Volunteers received their regular pay while on assignment. In addition, any Dorel employee who suffered a loss due to the flooding was given up to two weeks off with pay.
“This has truly been a team effort,” said Tim Ferguson, executive vice president of human resources. “While employees helped in the community, others did the work of two or three to keep our business running and on schedule.”
