City of Hope dinner moving to spring market

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, June 27, 2008

HIGH POINT — The City of Hope’s annual Spirit of Life dinner, which has been a tradition at the fall High Point Market, is moving to the spring market.

City of Hope officials said that starting in 2009 the awards dinner, which honors industry leaders for their philanthropic and professional achievements, will launch the year’s fundraising effort for the organization, a research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. There will not be a Spirit of Life event this fall.

“Moving our gala to spring market will serve as a jumpstart to our 2009 fundraising campaign,” said Michael Sandler, assistant director of development, City of Hope. “We’re grateful for the industry’s tremendous support of our efforts to move discoveries into treatments for cancer patients everywhere.”

The High Point dinner also will move back to its original venue, the Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons. Most recently, it was held in the big tent set up during market outside Showplace.

Next spring’s market will take place April 25-30, a new Saturday-through-Thursday schedule recently approved by the High Point Market Authority.

Other industry fundraising events for City of Hope include the West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament in June, the Midwest Dinner Cruise in August and the Hike for Hope in October.
