Green looks good in 2008
I want to wish all our readers a happy, healthy and prosperous 2008.
From where I sit, this really looks like the year that green initiatives firmly find a home in home furnishings! It seems that with each passing day, more and more consumers are making it clear that they want—and will pay for—viable green home furnishings.
The good news is that suppliers are responding! These drivers, coupled with the industry’s desire for growth, seem to be setting the stage for a year filled with green opportunities. However, as I’ve said before, we need to establish a single set of standards that suppliers, retailers and consumers can all understand and support.
Please continue to keep us posted if you have news about a new sustainable product or service. Our goal is to do everything in our power to disseminate information about sustainable home furnishings. You can help us meet that objective.
In the meantime, all of us here at Furniture Today wish you the best in 2008. Go Green!

Hello Ray: I'm glad to see your new blog. Can I tout my own horn in terms of new products? I'm with a new company that has worked for over four years to bring a beautiful, sustainable, ethically produced and non toxic product to market. We sell fabric for interiors which are made of natural fibers (either organically or sustainably produced) and which have been manufactured under the Global Organic Textile standard guidelines (i.e., no chlorine based chemicals, no heavy metals or aromatic amines in the dyestuffs for example; all mills treat their wastewater, etc.). Please see our website for more information (www.oecotextiles.com). Right now our target market is residential, and we're a small collection, but our fabrics pass the ACT performance tests for drapery and upholstery. Let me know if you'd like more information, and I'll certainly send on other products to you as I discover them! Best, Leigh Anne Van Dusen
