With the market just around the corner and spring in the air, it’s no wonder my thoughts are focused on green. The good news for those of us supporting green initiatives is that there will be plenty to see in the way of new initiatives at market.
One good example is The Old Wood Co., which makes a debut at market with a line of occasional and dining tables made from reclaimed wood that will shown in the Lee Industries Showroom at 100 South Lindsay Street during the April High Point Market.
Founded by Darren Green, a former Florida-based furniture rep, the sources reclaimed wood from old, irreparable structures throughout the eastern United States. Specifically, the company uses reclaimed wood from old barns and buildings that were beyond their useful lives, some as much as 100 years old or older.
The limited edition collection of solid wood top and metal tables is produced domestically and available in custom sizes. Featured woods include white oak and rare wormy American Chestnut. Finishes are water and soy based, or hand rubbed with environmentally responsible and health conscious oils and waxes. Recycled steel is used for the legs and bases, which have been powder coated in a process using no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s).
“I believe this is the way of the future and the decisions that I make regarding my company will have a clear eye towards being as green as possible,” added Green. “All of our packaging materials can be recycled and our accounting and bookkeeping systems are paperless.”
