Death claims vibrant Sealy VP
In one of those tragic, senseless accidents, an outdoors-loving Sealy vice president was struck and killed this past weekend while he was riding his bicycle in Guilford County, N.C.
David Sherman, 55, died instantly when an SUV struck him late Saturday afternoon. Witnesses saw a silver Dodge Durango leave the scene of the accident.
I didn’t know Sherman, but those who did described him as an athletic man with an adventurous spirit, one that led him to compete in marathons and cycling events. He was doing something he loved when his life ended far too soon.
Sealy officials described Sherman, who was vice president of tax and internal audit, as making significant contributions to Sealy’s financial improvements over the years. He had spent more than 11 years at the company.
Every death is a tragedy, but Sherman’s death hits home hard. It is a reminder than even if we are wise enough
to live life fully, as David Sherman did, it can still be cut short in an instant on a road in the country on a pleasant fall afternoon. So let’s embrace the lessons of a life well lived, but realize that we must always, always be watchful when we are behind the wheel.

Well said Mr. Perry. David was an in-law of mine. I didn't share riding, although I have the same passion and had planned to do so some time. Nor did I work with him. We did attend many holidays and family gatherings where we very much shared the family side of life. All the qualities and achievement in David's life clearly came from natural talent and devotion. Everyone should consider making a statement to raising the awareness of both motorists and bicycles to what it takes to "share the road". Nearly every state now has a special Share the Road state license plate. Check it out. Get one. Make a difference in David's memory.
Mark Hobson commented:
Dave was a rare individual. Smart, intelligent, caring and fun to be around. This "accident" is a true tragedy. He will be missed by all who knew him.
former sealy employee commented:
I will always remember Dave“s BIG smile and his love for life. Dave was a lot of what was and what is good at Sealy. Dave was a great person!
sealy employee commented:
The mattress business will go on but the darkened office of our friend and co-worker serves as a reminder that the most precious gift is life itself and we shouldn't take it for granted. Dave was a good man and we are honored to have worked along side him for so many years. He will be missed.
Lisa Stansbury commented:
My prayers are with his family and coworkers.
