Reach out and sell someone....gently
Let’s face it–today’s economy has most consumers up nights worrying about jobs, mortgages, college tuition and just about everything else that has a price tag attached to it.
It’s no wonder that with all that tension, consumers have kept a death grip on their disposable income.
So, how do you get consumers to open those fists, especially in times like these?
I think you find ways to reassure them. Make them exhale. Make them relax and give them some security cushion to soften the blow fromt the economic reality.
Automaker Hyundai is looking to drive sales and give consumers an emotional airbag with a new campaign that promises shoppers that if they buy a new Hyundai and lose their job within a year, they can return the car.
I guess you could call that ‘motorvating.’
What do you think?

Sounds like Hyundai is using the same sales approach that the banks have used with the housing loans. Get them in overextended, take it back and resell it.
Consumers need to make some solid decisions in their lives and in they’re spending without the easy out clause.

That's a really hard thing to do Ray "Make them exhale. Make them relax and give them some security cushion..." Given the market and anxiety levels I doubt that a furniture retailer can really make the consumer relax and have a sense of security. However, we are seeing some success from several of our retailers when they do an extremely good job of communicating the value of the proposition. She'll come out and spend if she sees that this is a unique, limited and worthwhile value that she can't get elsewhere.

So, assuming we did do it to ourselves, what do you think "we" can to to make the situation better?

with the quality from asia going further down the tubes when can a consumer feel any confidence buying items that fall apart when you look at them wall mart ikea and all hv destroyed the end users reality of what does furniture cost to buy...we did it to our selves by buying from wal mart rooms to go etc we buy crap and then complain about it......

the guy is talking about targeted advertising, not domestic vs offshore.

I don't think anybody in the furniture industry can stand to have anything come back to them right now or even in a year. We need our jobs to come back, we need to instill consumer confidence in what is being made here!!! It started in NC!!! BRING IT BACK!

LOL..how can you reach out and touch a client if they already know that everything comes from China!!!! Lets get Americans back working in furniture factories in small towns and lets get this ecomony up and going again..Let China keep their furniture and be proud to say this is American made......as a saleperson of 35yrs I would love to say that phrase again and let my customers know that we are taking back what we allowed the overseas market to get us in the shape we are today........

I think this is the only comment you are going to get. Write something meaningful to what our industry is going thru. Are you suggesting returning furniture to China after they take our jobs? Ha Ha good ruck.
