All In the furniture family
Based upon the recent news coming out of Lane Furniture, I guess you could say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Actually, the more I think about it, I probably should say the mechanism doesn’t fall far from the recliner.
Either way, earlier this week, we broke a story announcing that Skipper Holliman, the president of Lane, had left his post to launch his own company.
While as of this posting, we aren’t certain that the new venture will involve upholstery manufacturing, my money says it will, and it will be produced in Upholstery Central, aka Tupelo, Mississippi.
As most of you know, Skipper is the son of Mickey Holliman. Back in 1970 Mickey and Bo Bland got the itch to run their own company and launched an upholstery company headquartered in Tupelo known as Action Industries.
Action was purchased by Lane in 1972 and the rest, as they say, is history.
Here we are almost 40 years later and Mickey’s son, along with brother0in-law Gentry Long, are walking down the same path.
Stay tuned for an a flurry of announcements from this newest domestic furniture maker. We hear they will be announcing the procurement of a manufacturing facility in Tupelo.
We also believe that they may announce affiliations with some ‘names you know’ in the business.
Personally, I wish Skipper and his crew good things. I think ultimately if they create excitement and buzz in the business, everyone ultimately will win.
The world is a much flatter, more complicated place than it was some 40 years ago. Without a doubt, it is going to be fascinating to watch this story unfold.
