The next Kennedy on Capitol Hill?

May 21, 2009

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of spending time with Chris Kennedy, president of Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, you know two things. One is that his company has a major presence in High Point as the owner of the Suites at Market Square, Plaza Suites, Furniture Plaza, the National Furniture Mart and the Hamilton Mart building.

The other is that he is all Kennedy.  He looks and talks like his father, Robert F. Kennedy and has the wit and charm of Ted and J.F.K.

Having said that, I always speculated that politics was in his blood.  And today, it looks like my instincts might have been on target.

While Chris has not yet made it official, a spokesperson at MMPI confirmed to met that he is currently conducting viability polls regarding a possible bid in next year’s Illinois election for the seat vacated by Barack Obama.

Over the year’s, I’ve come to respect Chris for his integrity, honesty, sense of fair play and his tell-it-like-it-is attitude.

Should he become a candidate, we wish him continued success.
