Tupelo: Learn about logistics
Like many of you, I’ll be in Tupelo this week for the summer market. Also like you, I’ll be on the lookout for new, exciting product. But I also hope to see you at a seminar co-hosted by the Tupelo market and Furniture/Today’s Retail Ideas Division.
With the growing impact that transportation and logistics continues to have on the business, we felt it was imperative to help retailers get a better understanding of some of the key developments in these critical, interrelated sectors.
The seminar is set for Thursday, Aug. 18 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in Hall D of the Mississippi complex. It’s free to all Tupelo market attendees.
We’ll feature the results of a proprietary survey of some 250 retail operations. We asked these retailers to tell us how quickly they deliver to consumers, what complaints they get from their truck drivers, what they think of manufacturer packaging, if and how much they charge for delivery, and a host of other topics.
We also plan to present panel discussions, one of which will examine how to improve efficiencies in long-distance furniture transportation. We’ve assembled industry mavens who will drill down on topics including rising fuel costs and congestion at ports. Retailers will be empowered with a deeper understanding of inbound logistics nuances, how to improve efficiencies via specialized LTL deliveries; how technology can enhance delivery, and much more.
Mindful of the growing consumer demand for quick delivery, another panel will explore improving customer satisfaction through home delivery. Retailers will learn how furniture repair services can increase profits, reduce customer complaints and put them and the consumer in a win-win situation. Buyers also will hear how improved packaging and handling can reduce furniture damages, and gain a better understanding of how to use delivery as a competitive advantage.
All in all, the seminar should be an afternoon well spent. If you’re in Tupelo, I hope you will take the time to be with us for this special presentation.(to add public comments click on "Add your Comment" below, or to email Ray directly click here.)
