Help our industry by sharing insights

August 19, 2008

As someone who believes that knowledge is power and time is money, I’m asking that you invest a few moments of your time to respond to a survey that could quite possibly help you to run a more profitable business.

Each year, Furniture/Today hosts a Leadership Conference. This year’s event, themed “Connectivity,” is set for Dec. 3-5 at the Ritz Carlton in Naples, Fla., and will feature author and lecturer Mark Thompson.

Mark is the co-author of international bestseller, “Success Built to Last.” The book is an outgrowth of in-depth interviews he has conducted with business leaders around the globe, including Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffet, Virgin Airlines’ Richard Branson, Apple’s Steve Jobs, Microsoft’s Bill Gates, and former presidents Bill Clinton and Nelson Mandela.

Having Mark as our kickoff speaker, share the insights from those meetings, would in itself be priceless information. But he’s not your typical keynoter. As someone who is passionate about unlocking the unique insights of remarkable people, Mark and I agreed that it would be particularly insightful if we could use a survey to take the pulse of you, the Furniture/Today reader, and incorporate the results into his presentation.

Last week we sent the survey to the more than 30,000 subscribers to our eDaily newsletter. I would like drill down even deeper and I am personally asking each of you to fill out the survey so that we can hear from as many of you as possible.
Let’s face it: Our industry is grappling with the impact that drivers such as spiraling costs of energy, food, transportation, credit, housing and more are having on the consumer and her discretionary spending.

This survey also gives you an opportunity to share any best practices you are using to move forward in these trying times. While we will report the findings at the conference and in a follow-up report in the paper, individual responses will be anonymous.

With your help, I am hoping this survey can serve as the foundation for more successful, more profitable businesses. Let’s work together for a common good. Please take a minute to weigh in on the survey, which is online at http://www.researchtodayonline.com/data/FTHowsBus08.htm.

Stay tuned!!
