Memo to furniture retailers: Facebook is your friend!

Wesley Lee, manager of a Thomasville store, is a man after my own heart.  He looks for good news and when he finds it,  he is quick to share it.

Today, he sent me a note along with a just-issed report from BIGresearch that is worth sharing with you.

Recently, BIGresearch polled more than 22,000 consumers regarding their utilization of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and others.

Guess what? When social media users were asked what they plan to buy in the next six months, 17.8%, the second largest portion of those polled, said furniture.

Furniture came in second only to vacations, the response given by 30.2% of those polled.  Even so, we beat out computers, TV sets and cars/trucks.

I can’t stress enough that if you want to stress less about selling furniture, you need to pay as much attention to your online audience as you do to your brick-and-mortar shoppers.

Let me know what you are doing to get your face on Facebook, MySpace and the other popular social media platforms.

Hey, even if deep in your heart you think Twitter is for the birds, you owe it to yourself to tweet!  You just may find you have something to crow about!

I agree with the Facebook post. However, it's crutial that the site be professional and up to date. So many times Facebook sites have to much fluff and don't commuicate the message. Relationships are everything and a good way to build that is through the social networking sites

If we want to reach our customers when they begin researching, we have to hang out where they hang out.
Natura World is embracing social media in a big way on Facebook, Twitter and our blog. What's exciting about this space is that the results are measureable in sales, new relationships being forged and traffic to our website.
