Hello Furniture/Today readers

This is the first official blog I am writing for Furniture/Today and am so excited and thankful to have this opportunity! As a retailer on the front lines, I look to provide collective ideas and strategies for the new era we are in. We look to share knowledge from talented people and companies that could help our businesses during these challenging times.

The first thing on the agenda is a heart felt thank you to Ray Allegrezza, Editor in Chief of Furniture Today. When I contacted Ray last year regarding www.yourfurniturelink.com which brings additional exposure for manufacturers and drives traffic to the local retailer, he listened patiently. In our conversation he expressed his great concern for paths needed to assist retailers and manufacturers in this new era. It was Rays receptiveness to new channels of marketing that made it evident of his genuine care for the furniture industry.

The domino effect of stores closing is that manufacturers also close up and the market for choice shrinks. This affects retailers finding unique product and that is what gives each store its own personality. Additionally, there is fierce competition for the consumer as the internet has become commonplace for information. As Brick and mortars look to find positioning, we look to bring practical solutions and ideas from within our communities.

We all face concerns about the unchartered waters we are in. Yet, it is important to remember with every challenge, we have the ability to make them into opportunities. It’s funny how it takes difficult conditions to bring people together and also brings out the best in many.
