Everything is amazing. Nobody is happy.
Every now and then I have a bad day when my cell phone dies, an email bounces back or my Apple airport goes down. How dare this happen to busy me? I mean, how am I supposed to function? When Kirk and I started Mig and Tig Furniture in 1993 we thought we were cutting edge because we had a fax and phone system! Now I can’t even imagine if that was the only technology we had at our fingertips today.
We poured our heart and souls into our annual catalogue that we laid out by hand and then waited a day for the film to be developed. We spent a fortune on printing and postage to get into our customers hands.
Now, we change our website with the stroke of a key, do our layouts on the computer and can see if we want the shot in 2 milliseconds. If we don’t like the shot we just change it in photo shop. I can still squeeze in grocery shopping, commission checks and get the sales tax done that same day. It is funny how we become accustomed to technology as it has made our lives simpler, easier and efficient. These major technological changes have helped all of us in so many ways and often we don’t realize or appreciate it.
Moving forward we are facing economic challenges that are resulting in a paradigm shift. Technology will once again usher itself in and changes will take place we may not have considered. We can’t fight progress, but rather should embrace it and know it will benefit us if we understand it and look at it the right way. Perhaps one day, we will look back on 2009 and say, how did we function only with palm pilots and wireless laptops! That is just crazy!
It is important for us as an industry to be open minded for the technology to come, as it has up until now and it will continue to make all of our lives easier and more cost effective.
Enjoy this YouTube below, have a smile and remind yourself how lucky we are to enjoy the benefits of technology and the exciting era and opportunities that lie ahead of us.

Technology is awesome, evolving into opportunities for us to be more and more efficient. Yet, there is a point where simplicity is golden –the ability to absorb our surroundings in a natural way. I would still like to believe that there is something to be said for discovering wonderful destinations, comforting places; to touch, to feel the beauty of an environment, to experience the cordiality, expertise and warmth of the human hand. I still believe in that and want to continue to offer that through our business. Somehow, something is lost just looking through the lens of a video camera or at a computer screen. And with that I leave you with the words of the revered Meir Babba: Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

Vicki, I think you are right on the money. The furniture sector has not always been first in line to embrace new technologies. Now's our chance.
