Ask Me in Las Vegas

February 9, 2009

On Sunday, I will be in Las Vegas. I am on Twitter as @tkpleslie. Let’s talk. If you will sign up for Twitter and ask me your questions, I will answer them as fast as I can-in real time. The more of you that participate with me in the conversation, the richer the learning and the faster questions, ideas, products can spread.

Here is how it works: Go to www.twitter.com. Sign up. It’s free. It takes five minutes. Really.

Here are the key action steps:
A .use a strong picture in the picture box-faces are best, logos ok, but quality is most important.

b. write something in the “bio” space that QUICKLY enables someone to identify with you and with what you offer and/or do. Think keywords. Look at mine for an example or look at @furnituretoday for another example.

c. Choose background colors for your twitter page that match your brand presence.

That’s it.

Next, in the “twitterverse” there is a language. Here are a few of the terms:
a. “follow” and “following” This is twitter’s language. “Follow” means those people YOU follow. “Followers” mean those people who choose to “follow” you back.Generally, when you follow someone, as long as they see some commonality, they will follow you back. This is the way you link with a big group. You follow me, I follow you and now we can share and I can share your name, products, ideas with my other followers, too!

b. “tweet” -the 140 character micro blog post you type. To find people to follow, go to www.twellow.com and also www.search.twitter.com’s advanced search function.

c. “RT” or “retweet” This is the most important concept to understand. Read carefully: When you retweet someone else’s tweet, this means that all of your “followers” now see that person’s tweet.

This is how you go viral on Twitter. You retweet like this: Type “RT” Then, put a space. Then type in their twitter handle. Easy. It looks like this: RT @tkpleslie..not like this: RT @ tkpleslie or this: RT@tkpleslie. Again> RT, space, twitterhandle.

For instance, you might send me a tweet like this: ” Hey, @tkpleslie, wish tweeple following you could see our new collection at www.abcdefg.com called “Twilite”. If I like your collection, I will RT it out and that means that all 2400 of the people around the world following me on my Twitter account who are on Twitter at that time will see your collection!

Now, imagine the power in this when everyone in our industry is on Twitter and we are following EACH OTHER and linking content amongst our followers. I think with just a day or two of paying attention to how and what I tweet about you will understand completely.

I also encourage you to visit my newly redesigned website at www.tkpartnership.com and/or give me a call at 713-705-2482. Best of all, though, would be for you to send me a tweet saying, “Hey, @tkpleslie we now understand what U R saying about social media and power of viral mktg.-let’s do biz together asap!”
