Asian show circuit begins in March

February 24, 2011

March means different things to different people. For college basketball fans, it's all about March Madness. Those of Irish descent - among others - can't wait until St. Patrick's Day. Those of us sick of winter weather look forward to the warmer months of spring.

In the furniture industry, the month of March has added significance, and that's not only because of Premarket and the fast approaching April High Point Market. It's also because the show circuit heats up in Asia too, with several important events throughout the month. This season, things kick off with the Malaysian International Furniture Fair, which is followed by shows in Manila, Cebu and Singapore. All those take place within the first 10 days of the month.

If that's not enough to keep the long distance traveler occupied, next up are furniture shows in Indonesia and Vietnam, followed by a show in Thailand, and three major shows in southern China in Dongguan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

What all shows have in common is that they attract a significant number of visitors from Asia. They also attract many buyers from Europe and North America. Yet each has its own distinct personality that makes it worthwhile to visit at some point in one's career in the industry.

The question this year is, given the early start to the spring High Point Market (April 2), how many U.S. buyers will skip these markets? Or perhaps, who will skip High Point, having seen and purchased what they need overseas? How is this spring's market schedule affecting your plans?

This is another reason why sourcing from Mexico makes a lot of sense. If you’re interested in one of our collections we’ll gladly ship you samples or build a custom collection. Over-the-road time is never more than a week and multimodal no more than 2 weeks. And, if you would like to come down to one of our factories to see our furniture and enjoy the sunny weather you’re welcome too. No 15 hour flight required to get to Mexico and not a big dent on your travel budget. Rene Fimbres, California Furniture renefimbres@californiafurniture.biz
