HIGH POINT MARKET: Weather Forecast
The High Point Market’s weather forecast is looking pretty good so far.
Spring is just about as beautiful as you’ll see it down here in the North Carolina Piedmont - or at least it was on Friday and Saturday. Looks like the sun is fighting to peek back through today.
The Spring High Point Market starts this Saturday. It’s about two weeks later than where we were last year with the Monday, April 7 start.
That makes a big difference in the weather. In early April Spring isn’t quite yet on whatever steroids get into the trees and kudzu and blows this area into a lush, full force green.
Friday we had a high of near 70 degrees. Today we’ve got a high of 71 and this Friday - so far - looks to be sunny with a high of 79 degrees. Looks like the extended forecast calls for great weather through next Wednesday.
Let’s hope it sticks. Good warm weather is always a nice reprieve after being stuck in a showroom all day. I can’t say I was crazy about the 2007 start in late March, at least from a weather standpoint.
Still, predicting the weather in this town is about as much of a science as gauging attendance or what date people will start shopping at any market.
In the Furniture/Today office we’re on that market rush.
One thing that impressed me when I started working here is how this office works like a well-oiled machine leading up to and during market. They’ve certainly got it down.

With the High Point Market starting on a Saturday this year I know there’s a lot of folks who are getting into town on Wednesday and having sales meetings on Thursday or Friday. My first appointment is tomorrow.
With the dates as close to their former Thursday “start” as they used to be, I wonder how much shopping will happen early in the week? Anybody hearing anything? When will you arrive?
One last thing: Happy 100th High Point Market. I hope somebody gave Willard Scott a call.
