#MattressTags: A bed made out of gummy bears?
Hi and welcome to #MattressTags. I'm Thomas Lester, assistant editor at Furniture/Today and I've recently added bedding to my beat responsibilities, where I'll be working under the tutelage of industry icon David Perry to bring a new level of coverage to F/T's bedding business while continuing to exceed the high standard of excellence in rug coverage you've come to expect.
#MattressTags takes a new approach to bedding, bringing you unique, offbeat and at times humorous news that might not make the headlines but that we think is important to the business and the people who conduct it, nonetheless. One edition might contain links about mattress business around the world or results of a sleep study. Another could be filled with industry and consumer tweets, videos and images.
Our hope is to inform, enlighten and maybe make you smile.
Forget sugarplums. Last month, New York-based Craig’s Beds unveiled a one-of-a-kind mattress that must have had a few dreaming of gummy bears.
In launching the Craig’s Bed by Summerfield, the retailer’s new bed in a box concept, Craig’s unveiled The Summerfield Gummy Bear Bed in collaboration with IT’SUGAR. The bed consists of more than 26,000 of the sweet treats.
“The idea really started a few years back when I saw the Alexander McQueen gummy bear dress,” said Craig Fruchtman, owner of Craig’s Beds. “I had already started thinking how interesting a ‘gummy mattress’ would be and the launch of my new bed in a box presented the perfect opportunity to commission it. We dream big at Summerfield and want to inspire our customers to do the same; IT’SUGAR was the ideal partner!”
And here's a video on the making of the bed:
