Barcalounger Unveiling U.S.-Made Line

BarcaloungerMORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Motion upholstery producer Barcalounger is set to unveil its first lineup of domestically produced recliners at this month’s High Point Market.
The new products, called the Custom Choice collection, will feature chairs with a variety of leather, fabric and mixed media covers.
Most will highlight the traditional styling that has been a staple of the Barcalounger line, said company President Larry Smith.
Chairs will retail for $599 to $1,599 and will ship in 21 to 30 days from a factory in Tennessee that is producing the goods for Barcalounger.
Smith said the domestic products will supplement the company’s imported lineup of recliners, home theater seating and motion furniture. And more importantly, he said, it will allow dealers to capture special order business.
Barcalounger ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy protection in the spring of 2010, but re-entered the U.S. market in January under new ownership with an all-import line.
Smith said special orders were a key part of the business model for the former company, and he hopes the domestic lineup will help broaden the new company’s dealer base.
To help promote Custom Choice, the company has developed a kiosk that includes a sign, catalog sheets, information sheets for consumers, and swatches of available fabrics and leathers.
