Los Angeles – Veteran television producer Mark Koops, along with model and actress Ali Landry and her business partner, Anthony Samadani, will be holding auditions for a pilot of a new television series, "Born by Moms," at the ABC Expo in Louisville this month.
Koops is the producer of such shows as "Biggest Loser," and Samadani and Landry are the founders of SpokesMoms.com, a new website launching in October to provide product reviews and help moms make better informed choices when buying baby and children’s products.
"What we’re trying to do (with SpokesMoms.com) is connect moms to each other to post reviews, and at the same time, connect manufacturers with the moms so that they can connect with each other," said Samadani.
He said SpokesMoms.com will also be a place where manufacturers can create their own SpokesMoms page, and he hopes it will help retailers make better, more informed decisions about what products they purchase.
Initial response to the notification of open casting calls for "Born by Moms" was overwhelming.
"It’s been intense, but it’s been awesome," said Samadani. "We’re trying our best to accommodate everyone."
To help with the selection process and garner even more buzz for potential mompreneurs, SpokesMoms featured a contest on its Facebook page, with the top 10 most-liked products guaranteed an audition in Louisville.
The first Top 10 winners include bumGenius, Cuddlecloth, Drool Monkey, Labor-Looks, Mommy Necklaces, Nap Nanny, Padalily, PumpEase and Sticky Bellies.
SpokesMoms is holding an additional contest, as well as putting together a panel of expert judges who will pick the top category winners. One winner will receive a $5,000 investment to help build her business.
Auditions will be held Friday to Monday during the ABC Expo, in rooms C101 and C102.
"We hope to find enough pizazz and sizzle to prove that this is a viable show to have," said Samadani.
Landry, who is expecting her second child, has her own children’s clothing line, Belle Parish, and has attended the ABC Expo for the past three years.
"It’s really inspiring to see some of these small companies that make it big," she said.
Landry and Samadani are aiming to launch the Spokes-Moms.com website the first week in October, and are getting ready with Facebook and Twitter pages.
A SpokesMoms.com Red Carpet Event on September 10 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades will feature celebrity parents and highlight car seat safety, as well as garner publicity for the new site. The event, sponsored by Britax and Buick, will feature different check points. Landry herself has been certified as a child passenger safety technician by Safe Kids.
