GASTONIA, N.C. — Family-owned retailer Biggerstaff Furniture will close its doors after nearly 80 years in business as its owner calls it a career.
Third-generation owner Ray Biggerstaff announced his retirement and has chosen furniture promotional sales specialists Planned Furniture Promotions to handle the going-out-of-business sale events.
“Biggerstaff Furniture‘s longevity speaks to the trust and loyalty the family earned over generations,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president of PFP. “It is an honor to help celebrate that legacy as the family closes this chapter.”
Biggerstaff Furniture was founded in 1948 by Raymond Biggerstaff, grandfather of its current owner. The store originally opened on Franklin Boulevard just 300 yards from its current location, a 15,000-square-foot showroom, which was once a church building.
Over the years, ownership passed from Raymond to his son, Bob, and later to grandson Robert, the brother of current owner Ray Biggerstaff. In 2008, Robert’s son, Bobby, joined the business, representing the fourth generation of the Biggerstaff family.
