Veteran furniture executive, Fred Welch, passes away

CHAPIN, S.C. — Retired furniture executive Fredrick Donald Welch Jr. died Sunday, May 24, following a battle with cancer. He was 79.

Born in Greensboro, N.C., on Dec. 29, 1946, he was the son of Fredrick and Virginia Welch of High Point. He graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. Degree in Engineering and received his Master’s Degree in Investment Banking from the University of South Carolina.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by Lexington Furniture and was vice president of Burris Furniture.

Welch was predeceased by his son and parents. He is survived by his wife, Candy; a sister and two nephews, as well as other extended family members.
